The dog et it......*

Brothers and Sisters I stand before you full of contrition. The thing is, the servers at work started playing silly buggers. Then things at home got a bit busy for a while. Then there was this whole clinical presentation to the entire practice thing that I had to get ready for Monday last, and finally the dread annual GP appraisal looming for Monday coming. In short these are my feeble excuses for the lack of posts (and comments elsewhere) this past few weeks.

Not that I haven’t been thinking of you all you understand. And now I’m back and already I’m after a favour.

“Bloody typical…” I hear you all muttering, “It’s always Me-me-me with him. We don’t know why we bother… honestly… “ and so forth. And you’re probably quite right. Still you can’t blame a chap for asking, so here goes.

As last year, next Monday morning I am to be appraised. A colleague and mentor will be stopping by for a chat, to try to detect if I have developed any homicidal tendencies since last we spoke. I’m pretty sure I haven’t, so that should be ok, but the whole process can be a bit of a travail. To lighten the mood last year we tried a game of “buzzword bingo”, a little something I shamelessly plagiarized from Blogger par excellence, Greavsie.

So what I’m looking for are a few choice buzzwords for this year. All suggestions gratefully received. Of course if you felt you wanted to submit them wrapped in a ringing endorsement stating how the Caseblog has transformed your sex life, cured that embarrassing little crop of warts, given meaning to an otherwise drab and hopeless existence, or other such fitting tribute, then however much it might embarrass me, you should give free reign to those feelings.

Just don’t tell anyone I asked…..

*excuse supplied to Mrs Badcrumble for non-appearance of homework, circa 1969. (And no we never did have a dog).

'Going forward'..."I want a plan going forward"

Is par-excellence a buzzword? ;-)

Thank you!

I want to extend my humble thanks as your blog has transformed my sex life, cured that embarrassing little crop of warts, given meaning to an otherwise drab and hopeless existence. So many, many thanks. (crisp tenners in a brown envelope will suffice - it used to be crisp oncers, but they have gone by the board)

Also, welcome back.

Are you "horizon scanning"

Sorry, I can buzz and do words, but not both at the same time.

Is fruit salad a buzzword? If so you may use it with my blessing. You could try calling it macédoine de fruits, 'cos that's French and sounds clever.

Failing that, you may mention your superior telepathic skills with that veruca I had in a Very Awkward Place.

Good luck and so pleased to see you back. :)

o xxx

greavsie- no no, thank you. And if par excellence was't heretofore a buzzword it is now:-)
elaine- why thank you. If only I had an address for this brown envelope... oh, hang on, perhaps it's on one of these disks the courrier just left....
anon- like it . Did you know there's a Professor in Horizon Scanning somewhere ...
orchidea- re the buzzing thing ;-) . As for fruit salad, I'll try to shoehorn it in. And, the whole 'rein' thing, it's one of those hit-the-post-button-before-reaching-for-the-dictionary moments. Bother.

"Dynamic" and "competency" as in:
"I have been scanning the horizon and have decided upon a dynamic plan for when I tackle that difficult task of macédoine de fruits. Going forward, I hope you will give me free rein to address this task which focuses on a key competency."

How about:

high dudgeon

toadstool

roast potato

... but don't blame me if you get the giggles.

If "Thinking Outside the Box" is being radical, then one should occasionally "Think Inside the Box" in terms of offering well tested, non radical solutions to patients. One could go further and set non stretch inside the box targets whilst dealing with perfectly bog standard patient outcomes.

Aqua-- Welcome to the mad house ;-) and indeed....

Anon-- all very good words, and Dudgeon, high or otherwise did indeed make the cut ;-)

The Boy-- the only trouble is I find myself thinking inside an ever smaller box these days...

I know this is WAY too late to bring to the appraisal party, but for next time, perhaps 'robust', 'bottoming out', 'a big ask', 'for the toolbox', 'pushing the envelope', and 'blue sky thinking'?

Oh, having (now...) read your next entry, it looks as if you're playing buzzword bingo the other way round from the way I normally play it, hence the lack of challenge in the cliches I suggested above. Bother. Glad it went well, though.
